The Universal Key to Success in Business

For most businesses, the acquisition of customers is the single most important key to success. There are a number of successful strategies to find and land these customers depending upon the industry and the core strengths of any particular company. The most successful companies will often use a combination of techniques.

For established companies, reputation and word of mouth can be powerful sales tools. Of course, these rely on providing a superior product and the highest level of customer service to build a reservoir of goodwill among the company’s existing customers. For new companies, without established customers, these tools may not be available.

Other companies may rely on spreading the word and building a strong corporate image through advertising. At the local level this need not involve a large budget, but for companies trying to build a national or global presence this route can be extraordinarily expensive.

Regardless of the manner in which a company attracts the attention of prospective customers, there is one common skill required to be successful. That skill is the ability to close the sale and turn a contact into a customer. Some people are better at this critical function than others, but fortunately, with the right training program nearly everyone can make dramatic improvements in their sales ability. Good sales training programs involve specific training on techniques, building confidence, and increasing motivation.

For freight brokers and freight broker agents, personal sales skills are especially important. Client bases are built through a combination of sales technique, perseverance, and industry knowledge. Jeff Roach, industry veteran and lead instructor at Brooke Transportation Training Solutions, often tells the story of his first sale as a freight broker agent. He spent hours and hours day after day calling literally every name in the phone book before he finally landed his first customer. That customer landed him a very good weekly commission that lasted six months. That first sale gave him the confidence to continue his efforts and eventually to build up a strong base of repeat clients. Since then, Jeff has become an industry leader who trains others to be successful in the freight brokerage business.

Now, his company, Brooke Training Transportation Training Solutions is offering a new class that specifically focuses on improving sales technique and motivation for freight brokers and freight broker agents. Jeff teams up with sales guru Bryan Flanagan, author of Now Go Sell Somebody Something to present the two day course. In the course, Bryan’s larger than life presence imparts his extensive sales expertise while revving up students so they can hit the ground running. Jeff’s decades of industry experience helps tailor the lessons to the freight brokerage business.
